CM9 is now available for the original Galaxy Tab

So any of you sporting the original Galaxy Tab have likely realized by now you’re never going to see an official ICS update. Don’t let it get you down though cause there’s an alternative that in all likely hood is even better. The Galaxy Tab is now supported by CyanogenMod 9. This device was added just recently so there are still some kinks, such as the camera not working; a typical omission at this stage in development. You’ll also have to build this one from source. If those aren’t hurdles for you check in at the XDA thread for full instructions.
By the way if you have a Galaxy Tab of the 10.1 variety, I have it on good authority that a certain kang of CM9 is a brilliant. You can check that one out here.

Will We Finally See the Release of the Samsung Epic 2?

The sequel to the original Samsung Epic 4G was rumored to be seen on Sprint‘s network way back in quarter three of last year. However there hasn’t been much in terms of news regarding this device since then. Heck, the phone hasn’t even seen a release since it was first announced. Well it appears that we may actually see a release after all, as the device (SPH-D705) has made a showing in the Cellebrite system (see below). Usually this means that the release is imminent in the near future.
While it’s nice to see the possible release, as you can see near the Epic 4G Touch, at this point the phone’s specs aren’t really that impressive; at least in today’s multi-core age. It comes with a 4-inch qHD display with 1.2GHz single-core Hummingbird processor, and an 8MP camera. Who knows, maybe they’ve beefed up the phone since its first showing with some upgraded specs. We will have to wait and see.
So while being in the Cellebrite system doesn’t guarantee that we will see the phone released it sure is a sign that the phone is moving forward. Why would Samsung add support for a phone that wouldn’t be released? Again, only time will tell so keep it locked here as we bring you more information regarding this device.

Samsung Rumored To Bring 2GHz Exynos-Powered Galaxy Tab To MWC

We know Samsung is pushing its Exynos line of processors in its devices. That’s a given. However, we all know Sammy has yet to really push the boundaries of its impressive chip. It’s exactly why the brand is hard at work on its Exynos 5250 series of chips. According to Phandroid, Sammy is looking to take the ARM Cortex-A15-based processor and push it into 2GHz territory. You read that correctly folks, it is looking to have its chips at a whopping 2GHz. Moreover, rumor has it that while the chip will be insanely fast, it will suck less power than that the earlier chipsets. As it stands, the chips are currently in testing right now and we can expect to see them in devices by Q2 of this year.
Naturally you can’t have a chip in the works without a device made for it. That’s why Sammy is also rumored to be developing a special Galaxy Tab that will take full advantage of the Exynos 5250 series of chips. The tablet can support a resolution of up to 2560×1600, all in a WXQGA display of greater than 10-inches of course. Further details are scarce at the moment, but we expect to see something demoed or previewed at the upcoming MWC.

Samsung’s second 3G patent strike against Apple rejected

Samsung‘s second 3G/UMTS patent strike against Apple has been thrown out of court, with a German judge apparently deciding the Korean firm had no leg to stand on in its claims that the iPhone and other devices infringed its patented technology. Judge Andreas Voss did not explain his reasoning for rejecting the suit, FOSSPatents reports, though the justifications are expected to be in line with the last week’s ruling.

Two distinct possibilities have been suggested for the court’s rejection of the cases. Apple could have presented a sufficient technical explanation for the judge’s decision, countering Samsung’s allegations of IP misuse. Alternatively, Apple could have been deemed to in fact have a license to use the technology, most likely gaining coverage under its supplier deal with Qualcomm.
Samsung has sought access to Apple’s contracts with Qualcomm but so far been refused. The Korean firm alleges that Apple is not, in fact, covered by any deal with Qualcomm; meanwhile, Apple has fired back with suggestions that Samsung purposefully modified its deal with Qualcomm to exclude it.
Two remaining patent suits are in the pipeline for the German courts, with Samsung alleging non-standards-related infringement. The company could also appeal today’s decision, and the ruling last week, to the High Court.

Samsung GT-9300 and GT-9800 appear online – Galaxy S III and something new

Rumors continue  to run wild about the Galaxy S III. The phone is inevitable – Samsung’s made no bones about the update in a general sense – but a few tight leaks and speculation is almost all we have for hard information so far. The latest trickle of information is a listing spotted on Samsung’s Global Download Center: an entry for the product model number “GT-I9300″ is seen chilling next to the other models in the support site. For refference, the GT-I9000 is the oriignal Galaxy S, while the Galaxy S II covers the 9100-9200 families.

Also spotted was the Gt-I9800, which we’re honestly kind of baffled about. The second device was seen in a filing for WiFi certification. There’s no context and no info available on this phone, if that’s what it is. The screenshot could be something as simple as a typo, for all we know – we’ve also seen the GSIII labelled as the GT-I9500. We could fill your head with dreams of a special ultra-powered Galaxy S II with a 4K screen, 5Ghz processor, 10GB of RAM and infinite holographic storage. But that would be incredibly irresponsible of us. Wouldn’t it. The truth is there’s just nothing to say about the GT-9800 – except that it’s probably got WiFi.
The Galaxy S III was expected to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February (where the Galaxy S II debuted last year), but lately rumors indicate that Samsung will wait until later in 2012 to do so. The reasoning could be twofold: one, to wait for US carriers to get a chance to catch up and release the phone closer to its international debut, and two, to have a more recent competitor when Apple releases its iPhone 5. Or possibly the iPhone 4S Pro. They’re not big on actually improving hardware in Cupertino. In any case, we’ll be on hand at MWC to catch any and all announcements that are actually made.

Samsung could unveil 2GHz tablet at MWC 2012

Could this be what we have been waiting for? We had heard that Samsung may release the 2GHz Exynos 5250 processor sometime during Q2 of this year, but could it also be flaunted at this Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month? It makes perfect sense that it would, because it still follows the chip’s estimated public release date.

A 2GHz chip could change everything, especially when it is said to nearly double the performance of the current ones out there. Even more, the graphical rendering could improve by up to 4X!. NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor is a powerhouse, but something in me is saying this one will put it to shame.
The tablet is said to have a display larger than the standard 10.1-inchers out there, and considering how the Exynos 5250 supports pixel resolutions of up to 2560×1600 – it makes perfect sense. It’s hard to tell what kind of battery life a tablet with such a large display will have, especially while clocked at 2GHz.
