Google and Samsung have confirmed that their latest phone, the Galaxy Nexus, has problems with fluctuating volume.
Both companies have now issued statements saying that handset volume is a problem, but that improved software will fix the issue.
"Regarding the Galaxy Nexus, we are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix," Samsung said in a statement. "We will update devices as soon as possible."
Users of the Galaxy Nexus had complained on web forums that the device, which is the first to run the new Ice Cream Sandwich software, suddenly lowers volume whether it was during phone calls or when using the phone as a satnav or alarm clock.
The problem apparently derives from how the software interacts with the Samsung hardware, and both companies have said they are confident a software fix could solve the problem.
Apple’s new iPhone has faced similar issues, with the new iOS5 operating system causing some users to experience significantly decreased battery life. Apple has issued a software fix, but has not yet eradicated the problem.
