Samsung Galaxy S II LTE coming to Japan

25 November 2011 – Japan is getting its first LTE-compatible handset, the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE by NTT DoCoMo. The carrier has offered LTE service since late 2010, but the new S II is first LTE smartphone for purchase over there. The LTE device will go for 20000 Yen (estimated RM 820) with a two-year contract.

“It can compete well with the iPhone,” said the company’s President, Ryuji Yamada, at today’s press event in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. NTT DoCoMo’s LTE service called Xi, which Yamada noted, “If you use it, you’ll be satisfied with the speed.”

NTT DoCoMo is aggressively adopting LTE and hope to have 1.3 million contracts for LTE devices by the end of 2011 and hopes to expand that to 30 million by 2015.
