Samsung: Galaxy S won't get Ice Cream Sandwich

Samsung: Galaxy S won't get Ice Cream Sandwich. Phones, Mobile phones, Samsung, Samsung Galaxy S, Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 0
Got a Samsung Galaxy S? We've got bad news. According to Samsung your phone won't be getting Google's new Android operating system Ice Cream Sandwich.
Why? Well according to Samsung the phone just isn't powerful enough to run both Android 4.0 and its own TouchWiz skin together at the same time.
The company announced the bad news on its Samsung Tomorrow website in Korean. Using the help of Google Translate (which is pretty awful it has to be said) Samsung details how the Samsung Galaxy S and the first iteration of the Samsung Galaxy Tab aren't powerful enough to cope with the new Google OS.
"The company's argument is that they lack sufficient RAM and ROM to run the new OS alongside TouchWiz and other 'experience-enhancing' software," reports The Verge, a US gadget site, after being tipped off about the news by one of its readers.
Samsung has confirmed some of the company's smartphones will be getting the upgrade to Android 4.0 in the new year. Those include the Award winning Samsung Galaxy S II launched in February a year after the Samsung Galaxy S.
Thankfully Samsung Galaxy S customers in the UK that signed up for a two year contract at the start of the phones introduction should be ready for an upgrade just before the summer, meaning you won't have long to change to the new OS anyway.

Samsung Nexus S Gets Its ICS Face Unlock Treat

Whether you run Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Nexus S the
official orcommunity-way really doesn't matter as last year's "pure Android" does a great job. Face Unlock, however, is missing but there's a way for you to enable it.

It doesn't matter how well it works as a concept or whether if it's more of a gimmick than something useful, you can now take advantage of the VGA front-facer of the Nexus S to enable the feature. It was left out of the code but thankfully the community proves once again that great things can be achieved in Android-land. Regardless if you have a Nexus S or a Nexus S 4G, there are a couple of AOSP ROMs ready with Face Unlock and a couple of tweaks for you to download (just make sure you know your way around and that you grab the appropriate one).

Samsung Galaxy Note Sequel Gets WiFi Certification?

A certain
Samsung-made GT-N8010 device popped up on the WiFi Alliance website as the unit received its certification for IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n compatibility. We might be looking at a successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note introduced at this year's IFA.
There's no proof that the device itself is a Galaxy Note follow-up but the model number seems to imply that. While the smartphone-tablet hybrid already on the market wears the model number GT-N7000, a device named GT-N8010 could very well be a successor of some sort. The Galaxy Note is still not available in America -- though there are a couple of indications -- and the device itself is rather fresh but we might see a follow-up being shown off at CES or MWC
