Samsung, Sony, Pantech Bringing New Androids to AT&T LTE

ts
This fall, we saw AT&T's LTE network start with a bang, offering subscribers not one, but two LTE-equipped Androids to choose from in early November. Since then, we've heard a lot about additional smartphones planned for the growing 4G network. Today, AT&T really let the floodgates open, revealing, among other new products, half-a-dozen LTE-enabled Androids.

Some of these Androids on their way to AT&T are models we've had our eye on for some time. Take, for instance, the over-sized Samsung Galaxy Note, which we've spotted already with its AT&T badging and had been expecting the carrier to reveal this week. The 5.3-inch handset will go up for sale in a few weeks' time.

Also from Samsung, AT&T is getting an LTE-enabled version of the Galaxy S II, the Skyrocket HD. The 1.5GHz dual-core smartphone will feature a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED 720p display. Finally from Samsung, there's the Exhilarate. We haven't learned much about this LTE Android other than it has a four-inch Super AMOLED display and is being positioned as a "green" smartphone. That means it's crafted out of recycled materials and will include eco-themed apps.

burst xperia ion

Not content to let Samsung have all the fun, Sony Ericsson (soon to be Sony) is getting into the game with its first LTE smartphone. We've heard the name before, and now Sony's made the Xperia Ion official. The Android will include a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 4.6-inch 720p display, and a 12-megapixel camera. The Xperia Ion will come to AT&T during Q2 2012.

Finally, AT&T has a pair of Pantech Androids for its LTE network, the Burst smartphone and Element tablet. The hook here is that AT&T will sell you the pair for just $250 on-contract. You're really paying for the $250 tablet and getting the $50 Burst for free, but any way you cut it, that's a lot of hardware for under $300. Both Pantech models will be available on January 22. The Element has an eight-inch display and runs Honeycomb 3.2, while the Burst has a four-inch Super AMOLED screen. There's no word on other hardware specs, but at $50 on-contract, we wouldn't expect a very high-end device out of the Burst

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Coming to Verizon LTE with Super AMOLED+

Early this morning, we showed you some of the Android tablets going up for display at this year's CES. There were some pretty remarkable models among the selection, including some new quad-core devices. Samsung and Verizon have just announced their latest tablet offering, the extra-thin Galaxy Tab 7.7.

While the "7.7" figure is supposed to refer to the size in inches of the tablet's 1280 x 800 display, it very nearly doubles as claim to the tablet's thinness; in reality, the device is just a smidge too thick, at 7.9 millimeters. While that misses the mark on the coincidence, it's still a solidly impressive measurement.

Beyond its slim build, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is noteworthy for its Super AMOLED+ display, a rarity on tablets. The hardware is powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, features 16GB of internal flash storage, and includes a three-megapixel main camera with a two-megapixel front-facer. 4G's the name of the game in 2012, so of course the Galaxy Tab 7.7 includes an LTE-compatible radio.

All together, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 weighs-in at under three-quarters of a pound. According to Verizon, sales will begin "in the coming weeks

Sprint announced their own LTE Samsung Galaxy Nexus

A few days ago we learned that Sprint might be the second carrier to carry the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, today Sprint's LTE landing page reveled the Galaxy Nexus as their first LTE smartphone and confirmed by a Sprint PR.

Sprint didn't announce a price or release date for the device but they did mention that it will be available in a 16GB model and a 32GB model, compared to Verizon only offering the 32GB model, and Google Wallet, that was also a Sprint exclusive on the Nexus S. Notice how Sprint is carful to only mention thing to make you conceder their Nexus to Verizon's?

No word on specs or on the CPU clock speed bump to 1.5GHz, but we assume it will remain the same specs and size as the Verizon LTE version.

MetroPCS' Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G hands-on

Samsung launched a bevy of sets today, including the Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G which brings more LTE speed and, let's face it, pure cellular magic to the waves of MetroPCS. The device itself is quite small when compared to some of the 4.3-inch behemoths we've seen of late, but by eschewing some of the high end features Samsung manages to keep the price down. The Attain's 3.5-inch display is clear and easy to read, build quality -- we're rather fond of the textured back -- quite good and for only $199 after a $50 rebate, not a bad deal. Follow on to the gallery for some sparkly live shots.

MIUI now fully functional on Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus

ViciousMIUI was released for Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus only a few days after its initial launch, and since then we’ve been eagerly waiting for developer DroidVicious to release a completely functional MIUI port. Just two days ago, he did just that.

He claims everything works within the new build, and most problems can be fixed with a single one time reboot of the device. The only problem so far, is that MIUI themes seem to not be compatible. Just recently, reports have also show the video camera is opening and hanging – he pledges there will be a fix soon.
Of all the Verizon Galaxy Nexus ROMs, this seems to be the most unique one currently offered. The UI and code is so similar to stock Android 4.0 in other ROMs, that it will be the first to stand out from the rest. If you all plan on flashing this – make sure you wipe everything before installation or you’ll have serious errors.
