Samsung Shows Off Flexible Transparent OLED Display (Video)

Samsung has shown us a few of their transparent displays before, and now we have a new video which shows hos these displays could be used in the future, which you can see below.
The transparent flexible AMOLED display certainly looks very interesting, but I suspect we are probably a few years aways from seeing smartphones and tablets that looks like the one in the video.

It will be interesting to see how these flexible displays are developed over the next few years, we wonder how long it will take for us to see something like the display in the video hit the market.

Asus’ goal for 2012 is to beat Samsung in tablets

Asus has offered up a glimpse of what it wants to do in 2012 at its global sales meeting held this week. Part of the goings on at the meeting was to set the shipment goals for the four major product lines next year. The company has announced that it expects to ship more than 22 million notebooks and netbooks next year reports DigiTimes. The specific number Asus is shooting for internally is 23.8 million units.

When it comes to tablet PCs Asus is a bit more specific. It wants to ship at least three million tablets shipped with an internal goal reportedly set at 6 million tablets. That would put Asus ahead of rival Samsung in the tablet market. Asus may well do that with the Transformer Prime looking like one of the best Android tablets to land so far.
The big number of notebook shipments that Asus expects next year would put it ahead of Dell and put it in the running for the third largest notebook vendor globally. The bulk of the shipments will be notebooks at 19.3 to 19.8 million units, netbook shipments are expected to continue to decline.

Android Market hits 10 billion app downloads, celebrates with 10¢ app sale

There’s a lot of Android phones and tablets out there – pushing 200 million at last official count. That’s a lot of people downloading apps form the Android Market. Today that number may have  surpassed 10 billion total app downloads, and to celebrate, Google’s offering a handful of premium apps for just 10¢ (£0.10 in the UK.)

The premium apps on offer are as follows: Soundhound, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD, Minecraft Pocket Edition, SwiftKey X, Ecomondo, Great Little War Game, SketchBook Mobile, Fieldrunners HD, Color & Draw for Kids, and Paper Camera. This is no small promotion; many of these apps have hundreds of thousands of paid downloads already, and the discounts start at 90% and go up. There’s no indication of when the sale will end, so if you want any of the apps listed here, download them now.

We haven’t heard anything official on the 10 billion app promotion. The total may not have even been passed yet – it could be that Google’s drumming up excitement to reach the milestone, with a little help from some high-profile Android developers. In any case it’s a sweet deal on some very in-demand apps, so go for it if you haven’t already.

Samsung demos a transparent flexible AMOLED on video

We didn't need much convincing to believe that flexible and transparent screens have a great future. Smartphones and tablets these days are about the touch experience and any updates done to the screen itself have a great potential to improve the general user experience greatly.
Still, Samsung felt that it's a good time to release another visionary video demonstrating where the achievements of its R&D department can get us.
It's quite impressive right? Of course, it would be naive to expect anything like it from the first batch of flexible AMOLEDs, which should be out as early as next year. We are not sure when the transparent part of the deal described above will also come to the shelves, but we guess it will take another year at the very least.
Nonetheless, it's good to know that smartphone technology still has room for improvement and we might have something else besides pixel count and contrast to quarrel over in the works.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus to sell for $299.99 on two-year contract

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus rumor train is going at full speed. Today we got a new story about the pricing of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich pioneer on the big red US network.
Wall Street Journal has it that, despite earlier rumors pointing at a $199 price tag on a contract, the Galaxy Nexus will cost $299.99 as initially expected. That's the kind of price that gets you an HTC Rezound, which carries a specs sheet quite close to that of the Samsung new flagship.

The new information is said to come from people close to the matter, but the source doesn't get any more specific than this. Unfortunately we weren't provided with a target release date either, so we'll have to wait a little longer to see if the "this Friday" rumors are correct.
We are sure many of you are eagerly waiting for the saga to end and the Galaxy Nexus to hit the Verizon stores as it'll make a great present, so we'll keep you updated as soon as new info comes up.
