There’s a device coming to T-Mobile in March that goes by the name Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, and not unlike its Galaxy S II relatives, it’s got everything the average customer needs to have a fabulous smartphone experience through the summer of 2012. There’s a lot of talk going around of quad-core processors, utterly amazing cameras, and modems that will clear your device out of all unconnectedness, but here’s the long and short of it: the device you’re looking at right now is all you, the average smartphone user, really ever needs. It’s not a flagship, it’s not a top-tier device, it’s not even the most stylish device you can buy for the price: but it is just what you need. This device has a 3.97-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen on it. That means it has the ability to be brighter than you could ever possibly want it to be. People will be wondering why you have a spotlight in your hand. I used the Galaxy S II from AT&T for weeks before it finally got replaced due to a challenge by the iPhone 4S, and I can tell you without hesitation that I’ve never held a brighter screen in my hands – and yes, it’s the same screen technology you’re getting here in the Blaze. In addition, the 3.97-inch screen size fits right in the range of “sweet spot” for those of you hoping to not only have enough room to browse the web and play any app under the sun, but also to reach the entirety of the screen with just your one thumb in one hand. This device will launch with the tried and true Android version 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s own highly-tuned user interface by the name of TouchWiz. For those of you that’ve used this newest version of TouchWiz, you know it’s the next best thing to vanilla. Vanilla is what you get when Google makes the operating system and doesn’t add any changes between it and the carrier. Samsung’s changes make the whole experience better than any other hardware company that currently does it. Do I believe that groups like HTC and LG will wow us at Mobile World Congress with their brand new ultra-fantastic smartphones? Yes I certainly hope so! Do I have confidence that the device they’re going to release will be out before early Summer? Not a chance! So what we’ve got here is a period of waiting in between and a device that costs just $150 after a $50 mail-in rebate, and it runs on the fastest network T-Mobile has to offer yet as well. So here it is: I guarantee you will be satisfied by this device without me even having to pick it up. I’ve experienced every component this device will be working with, including Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz dual-core processor inside on other devices, and unless Samsung somehow flips out and screws this device up royally somehow or another, they’ve got a perfectly legitimate and awesome device for sale soon at T-Mobile.

The Samsung Galaxy Note was finally made available in the U.S. as AT&T released it a few days ago. Other than having a ginormous 5.3-inch screen, the real difference between this phone and others is the included S Pen, or as some might like to refer to as a stylus. What can you do with it? Well I showed you a few things in my unboxing video, but I thought I would go through some apps that weren’t included with the phone to show you some cool stuff. Yes the Galaxy Note might just be the coolest phone in the land.

Galaxy S Blaze 4G is Spring 2012′s perfect basic smartphone

New Galaxy Note Ad Focuses On Pen [Video]

Samsung Mobile USA released a video on YouTube today of the Galaxy Note which focuses on it’s S Pen functionality (don’t call it a stylus). This ad does a better job at showing what the Galaxy Note can do than Samsung’s earlier Superbowl commercial. The ad states that the Galaxy Note is “the best of a smartphone… and the best of a tablet…” and that “it has a pen with a brain.” Riveting stuff.
Check out the video below and see what this 5.3″ beast can do with its magical stylus pen!

South African carriers hint at Galaxy S III release in Q3 2012

Well it’s been about a week since we heard some juicy and unsubstantiated rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S III… which means we’re long overdue. MyBroadband reports that a spokesman from the South African branch of Virgin Mobile said that they plan to offer the phone some time in the third quarter, with local carrier Cell C replying that they’d have it some time in July. A third carrier, MTN, said that they’d offer the Galaxy S III instead of the Galaxy Nexus, but didn’t give a time frame for the former.

A late summer/early fall release makes sense, if the rumors that Samsung is delaying the Galaxy S III to better prepare for the iPhone 5 launch are true. And we stress, those are just rumors – Samsung won’t be bringing the next Galaxy flagship to Mobile World Congress this month, but that could just be because it needs more time in development. However, the fact that Samsung has decided to hold its own event, Apple-style, certainly lends credence to the idea that they want their own private limelight.
We’d talk about the Galaxy S III’s rumored specifications, but honestly, there’s been so much back and forth and the release is so far away that there isn’t much point. (The photo above is an optimistic fan render.) It’s safe to assume that the phone will have at least a 4.5-inch screen using Samsung’s 720p Super AMOLED display, and rock Ice Cream Sandwich with Touchwiz. Beyond that, it’s all speculation: 3D lenticular technology, waterproof casings, and a built-in bottle opener – take your pick. We won’t be seeing the GSIII at Mobile World Congress, but the smart money is on third-generation Samsung tablets showing up.

Samsung shows off the AT&T Galaxy Note’s artistic side in new video

If you’re a phan of the phablet, odds are pretty good that you’ve got one by now: after months of waiting, AT&T launched their American version of the Samsung Galaxy Note on Sunday. While the Super Bowl ad left a little to be desired as far as showing off the actual device, a new Samsung ad gives the mega-screen Note and its S-Pen digitizer stylus the screen time they deserve. The 60-second commercial should be appearing on American broadcasts soon – though thankfully, they seem to have abandoned the “phablet” marketing.

The majority of the screen time is devoted to the S-Pen, and why not – aside from a big 5.3-inch screen, it’s the most important differentiator for the Galaxy Note. Casual observers may not realize that it’s more than just a stick of plastic or a capacitive stylus, it’s a digitizer, using Wacom technology for both greater accuracy and pressure sensitivity. The uniqueness doesn’t stop with the hardware: plenty of included apps (as shown in the video) take advantage of the S-Pen, and Samsung has published an API so that third-party apps can get in on the action too.
If you want to dig a little deeper, be sure to check out our extensive review before you open your wallet. Made your decision? Then head to an AT&T or Best Buy store armed with $299.99, or $649.99 if you’re like to forego a two-year contract. Most of Europe and parts of Asia already have the Note in its international version, but AT&T is the only vendor for the states – unless those rumors of a Verizon Galaxy Journal pan out.

Galaxy Note LTE rumored for NTT Docomo in Japan

Android Central
Japan may be the among the next countries to get the LTE verison of Samsung's Galaxy Note, according to the latest rumors from Japanese tech blog Gpad. The site's notes that a device carrying the model number "SC-05D" recently received Bluetooth certification, and later appeared in a leaked Modaco product catalog alongside the name "Galaxy Note".
The reported spec list would place the Japanese version on equal footing with the Canadian and AT&T LTE models, with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 CPU, 1GB of RAM. Scoring the Galaxy Note would be a big win for Japan's largest carrier, which already has its own version of the Galaxy Nexus, and many other leading Android handsets.
We'll have our review the AT&T Galaxy Note up soon. In the meantime, be sure to check out our write-up of the international version from last year.

US Cellular's Galaxy S II may drop March 1

US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S II
US Cellular's Samsung Galaxy S II may hit stores on March 1, according to an internal document sent to Android Central. The memo, titled "Samsung Galaxy S II Equipment Launch Announcement" is dated Feb. 20 -- the day before the regional carrier actually announced the device. The memo reads as follows:
The Device Launch Management team is pleased to announce the forthcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy S II on March 1, 2012.
Samsung and US Cellular are proud to launch the Samsung Galaxy S II a high end 3G Android-powered device. Based upon the success of the Samsung Mesmerize, we have worked with Samsung and [are] now able to offer our customers another great 3G Samsung Galaxy product. Maintaining a strong 3G portfolio is critical to our device line-up and the Samsung Galaxy S II is a perfect fit.
All stores are expected to have the Galaxy S II by March 1, according to the memo, but it also sounds like some may see it sooner. As always, nothing's official until it's official -- we've seen these sorts of things change before. And there's no still mention of an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Thanks, anon!
