Samsung Focus S hands-on

Out of all the initial Windows Phones to launch last year on AT&T, the Samsung Focus easily comes to mind as being the most reputable one out there. Of course, one year later, we’re finally starting to see a device that charismatically improves upon the handset’s overall offering. Rocking a $199.99 on-contract price, the recently announced Samsung Focus S is no doubt bringing it to the table as being yet another high-end offering for the Windows Phone camp.

Honestly, the Samsung Focus S looks eerily similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II in terms of design. Specifically, it’s constructed out of plastic, very light weight, streamlined, and even has a similar patterned plastic back cover. Obviously, its overall size has increased by a tiny bit over the Focus from last year – well, that’s because it’s packing a larger 4.3” WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display. We can’t complain about the resolution, since all Windows Phones are the same, but our eyes are drooling over the rich and saturated colors the Super AMOLED display is able to produce – and at the same time, it simply shines at all angles.

Under the hood, the handset is powered by a single-core 1.4GHz processor, which is more than sufficient in maintaining the lovable, yet smooth response of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. Furthermore, it features other things such as an 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, 16GB of internal storage, high-def video recording, aGPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. Sure it might not be a cutting edge phone, nor does it sport a fresh design, but the Samsung Focus S might simply be the most attractive Mango device for AT&T right now.
