While the U.S. is patiently waiting for the release of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus by Verizon, the new flagship Android model is already enjoying its freedom in the UK. According to results obtained by Anandtech, the first handset to be powered by Android 4.0 was able to outscore the Apple iPhone 4S in a couple of web benchmark tests.
The Samsung GALAXY Nexus is equipped with the the Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 processor and the Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX 540 GPU under the hood. The CPU's on the GALAXY Nexus are clocked "noticebly higher" than the 800MHz processors on the Apple iPhone 4S. In the actual testing, the Samsung GALAXY Nexus scored 1879 on the SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark test where the lower the number means the better the score. The model managed to top the list with the new Motorola DROID RAZR coming in second with a tally of 2067. The Apple iPhone 4S was next with a score of 2250. The Apple iPhone 4 follows with a 3545 testing. Rounding out the top 5, the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch produced a score of 3634.
The Apple iPhone 4S did outperform the Samsung GALAXY Nexus when it comes to graphics, thanks to the dual-core SGX 543MP2 GPU from Imagination Technologies. Based on the results from the the GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt and Pro tests, the Apple iPad 2 was the top device for graphics followed by the Apple iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S II with the Samsung NEXUS Galaxy in fourth place.
