Samsung Electronics said its annual mobile phone shipments have topped 300 million already this year, up from 280 million in 2010. The record was achieved at the end of November, making Samsung the second mobile phone maker after Nokia to achieve such a feat. Cumulative shipments of mobile handsets by Samsung, which started its mobile phone business in 1988, stand at 1.6 billion, the company said in a statement reported by Yonhap News. Samsung said its diverse product line-up, a series of blockbuster models and a successful shift in its focus to smartphones had combined to reach the milestone. Globally, Samsung sold more than 10 million units each of its Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 smartphones this year.
