Google confirms Galaxy Nexus volume bug is software related

Google confirms Galaxy Nexus volume bug is software related . Phones, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google, Clove, Android, Ice Cream Sandwich 0Owners of the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone have been reporting a volume problem - dubbed SAV-Ghost - that sees the phone twitchily changing the volume under certain conditions.
Tests by many sites, including Pocket-lint, have isolated it to a problem relating to 2G network interference. In our case, a 2G device caused the volume to change when held against the Galaxy Nexus.
Online retailer Clove.co.uk is reporting in a blog post that they have had confirmation from Google that it is a software issue and that they are working on a fix. They also report that it is a problem with the 900MHz frequency specifically, which has been widely identified.
The important part of the blog post states:
"We did not wish to make an announcement until a clear solution had been given by Google.
"We can now confirm that Google were alerted early to this issue and have been working on a fix. It is software related and as you may have seen from various forum and blog posts this morning, they are now able to confirm that they will have a fix. It is NOT hardware related. We cannot yet say the precise date that this fix will be released but it is expected very soon.
"The software update will be pushed out to devices by Google, free of charge, the moment it is available."
Some have been fast to reject this conclusion given the range of conditions under which the error has been generated, so there is still some clarity to be gained on the matter. It also affects different users in different ways and we didn't encounter the problem with our device on the Orange network during our review.
Clove don't give a source for the information, but a quick search seems to lead back to Android Police. We've asked Google for an official statement on the matter and will update with any details when we get confirmation.
UPDATE: We've just spoken to Google directly and had confirmation for ourselves from a Google spokesperson. The statement simply reads "We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible."
