EK06/EK04 Radios and Bootloader leak for Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Seems like Verizon’s 4G network may have succumbed to the cold weather today as people nationwide are reporting 4G outages. That being said, if you are a Galaxy Nexus owner, you may feel as if your signal wasn’t stellar enough already. Verizon acknowledged this issue and promised a software update to help remedy the low bars we’ve been seeing. Today we have for you leaked radios and an updated bootloader that should be part of the update to which they are referring.
I flashed the radios and bootloader this morning and don’t have any issues to report, however, the signal gain I’ve noticed is modest to say the least. I’m typically seeing one bar more than previously, while my household Samsung Charge reports 1 to 2 more bars on average. This leads me to believe that Verizon’s network issues today aren’t hindering my Nexus’s performance, in other words, it probably won’t get better when the network recovers. That’s not to say that my call quality and signal have necessarily been bad. I’ve dropped one call since owning the device, and I’ve had full signal showing in certain areas around town. I can’t help but wonder if maybe ICS reports bars differently, because aside from the visual representation, I’ve been able to make calls as usual. Anyways, if you want to try these out, just follow the instructions below.

First download the zip file: 403radios_btldr.zip
*The instructions assume you have an unlocked phone. If you need help with that, look here.
Instructions using Clockwork Mod Recovery:
  1. Reboot into CWR.
  2. No point in making a backup before flashing this zip. By flashing the new radios, if you try to restore to a former backup you will get an MD5 mismatch.
  3. Choose “install zip from sdcard”.
  4. Then “choose zip from sdcard”.
  5. Locate the “403radios_btldr.zip” that you downloaded and select it. Choose “yes” to install it.
  6. Reboot and you should find EK06 & EK04 under baseband version in settings.
Instructions using fastboot (Works without root):
  1. Unzip 403radios_btldr.zip and extract/move its contents to your platforms-tools folder in the Android SDK directory.
  2. On windows, in your platform-tools directory, hold shift and right click. Choose “Open Command Window Here”.
  3. Start up ADB by typing adb devices. You should have a long string of numbers and letters showing for connected devices. If so, type “adb reboot bootloader”.
  4. Your phone should now be in the bootloader. Assuming your unzipped files are in the same directory as fastboot, type “fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img”  (The file is named “bootloader.img” in this particular zip file).
  5. It should only take a second. After which type “fastboot reboot-bootloader”. Your bootloader will reload and you can proceed to the next step.
  6. Type “fastboot flash radio-cdma radio-cdma.img”. This one takes a bit longer. After it completes, reboot the bootloader.
  7. When your back up, type fastboot flash radio radio.img. This one is pretty quick.
  8. That’s it, you can now use your volume keys to highlight “Start” and hit power to boot up regularly. If you find problems after having flashed these files, you can use this same method as outlined above to revert to the previous versions using the files Google has provided. The zips for 4.0.1 & 4.0.2 are located here. (just take note of the file names when issuing your commands through fastboot. For instance, in this zip file the bootloader was named bootloader.img but in Google’s stock 4.0.2  folder the bootloader is named bootloader-toro-primekk15.img)
