Samsung introduces the SCH-W999, a dual-screen flip phone


All you flip phone fans out there, this will come as some interesting news for you. Samsung has raised the curtains on a dual-screen flip phone, the SCH-W999. This handset is certainly feature-rich and boasts of interesting specifications such as the ability to run Android 2.3 with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor with a MSM8660 chipset and dual 3.5-inch Super AMOLED displays. This handset was unveiled in partnership with China Telecom and apart from supporting GSM networks; it will support 3G through CDMA as well.

Here is a look at the highlighted features of the Samsung SCH-W999:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor

  • Dual connectivity modes (GSM and CDMA2000)
  • 5 Megapixel rear camera
  • Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, WAPI

According to a report by Engadget, this rather large handset will be available in China by early 2012 and as of now there is no word on pricing yet. The website notes that although there is no word on the handset’s pricing, the predecessor, the SCH-W899 was priced at approximately Rs. 71.000 (USD 1,400). It would be a good guess that the SCH-W999 would have an equally hefty price tag. As for when this handset will be made available internationally, there is no word as of now.
